Mirror #1

Increase the quality of DeusEx with this Ultra High Quality config.
I am not the author of HDTP or ENBSeries, I simply placed and tweaked those two together to achieve optimal graphical quality.
I didn’t had the opportunity to fully test this, so if you spot any flaws on my installation guide, or anything really, please let me know by sending me a e-mail.

- Better shadows and render contrast
- Bloom
- Bump Mapping
- Ambient Occlusion
- Specularity
- Very high quality textures
- Lightning improved

Installing
1. First of all, make sure you install HDTP-Release1 into DeusEx folder. (After install, it should create a HDTP shortcut on your desktop, if not, go to the game’s system folder and make one, you’ll be using HDTP.exe from now on)
2. After that, copy all the contents of the folder “DeusEx Ultra High Quality Mod Files”, and paste it inside the folder “System” on the game’s folder. (Replacing all the existing files)
You will have to edit the file HDTP.ini, search for the line that says “CdPath=J:”, change the letter “J” for your CD/DVD drive where DeusEx CD is placed.
3. Run HDTP.exe, the game should start, now go to Settings -> Display -> Rendering device, click “Show all devices” on the “DeusEx Video configuration” window, and select “Direct3D9 Support”.
4. Now, go back to settings, and select your favorite graphics resolution, and make sure to select 32bit on “Texture Color Depth”.
5. Select new game, and try it out. Pressing Shift + F12, disables and enables screen effects.

Change Log & Bug Fixes

Version 0.1 ~ release 07-10-2008
First official release

Notes:

- VERY IMPORTANT: Do not forget to edit the file HDTP.ini, search for the line that says “CdPath=J:”, change the letter “J” for you’r CD/DVD drive where DeusEx CD is placed.

- You wont be able to use your old save files after installing HDTP.
- Press Shift + F12, to disable and enable screen effects. This is useful to be able to better see the menu, due to exaggerated bloom.
- To tweak the bump mapping, press Shift + Enter, you should see 6 options on the top of the screen, press a number from 1 to 6, and use PageUp and PageDown to tweak.
- To tweak the D3d9 settings, press T, delete the “say” text, and type “preferences”. Go to “Rendering” -> “Direct3D9 support”, and tweak away! ;)

:: Edit ::

Hey guys! :)
I never imagine this config will get so popular, thanks to all the websites mentioning this, and to everyone mailing me! :)

I’d like add something to the text on my post, by the time I wrote that I didn’t knew that you could just find the DeusEx.ini in the system folder and remove the CD drive letter so it looks like this
CdPath=

Is the menu supposed to be much too bright?

Comment on October 12th, 2008.

Yes, It’s natural for the menu for being so bright, because the bloom is per screen, not ingame only.

Press Shit + f12, if you can’t see the menu like I described in the read-me! :)

I think you missunderstood me, if i run DeusEx with your exe file it always asks for the CD. I think there is no sence to crack the original exe because the game is started with another exe. Correct me if im wrong.

I am a bit perplexed. I downloaded the high quality texture mod, but there is only one .rar file. This precludes me from pasting any files into the system folder ( and overwriting files of any sort) I installed it to the Deus Ex folder but again, it only loaded a .rar file. I don’t see how I can create a hdtp.exe file. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Comment on October 29th, 2008.

there’s s .EXE file in the rar, that’s HDTP, you must install it! ;)

Make sure you have your gfx card drivers up to date man.

And try this:

i have a problem with the mod. after installing everything as instructed, and switching it on by the hotkey combination, everything goes REALLY dark. the light and textures are there, but even after raising gamma and monitor brightness to max most of the areas are so dark you can!t see without using the light aug. can you advise how to fix this please? the textures look really good and i would!T want to miss out on them.

thanks in advance,

tomas

Comment on September 24th, 2009.

Yes, unfortunatly I have the same problem. With this mod, the game overall, tends to look dark, and with a lot more contrast.
It might vary a little bit from gfx board to another, but it’s one of the things about using these DLLs.

sorry! :)

Hello,
I’ll try not to keep you for long since I’m sure you’ve got a pretty
busy schedule, but I was hoping you’d be able to help with an issue
I’ve been running into with your mod, “Deus Ex ~ Ultra High Quality
Mod version 0.1.” I’ve followed the directions to the letter. I can
get it running with the enhanced graphics with DX9, and everything
will be fine while I’m running it (except for some stray shadows).
I’ll save my file, and leave the game. However, when I get back into
the game (yes, using the HDTP shortcut icon on my desktop) the
enhancements will be gone. I can reload them by entering the in-game
menu and changing the graphics back to the enhanced version by
selecting “Direct 3D9″ support, and when I get back into the game and
load my file that was made while your enhancements were running, the
game is awfully dark, however the enhancements (textures are more
detailed, etc) are still there. I’ve tried to keep this as clear as
possible. If you can help me with these issues, it’d be very much
appreciated, because I love that game and the mods that you and many
others offer are great. I hope you can help me! Take care.

Comment on February 4th, 2010.

Hi there.

Unfortunatly, it’s one of many bad aspects about this mod, it makes your game really dark. Try using the nvidia tool to increase the brightness, or even in the game options, or even your own monitor. Sorry, I did tried to fix this, but without sucess.
One of the problems as well, is if you tweak the parameters ingame, they do not get saved in the ini, you must do it by hand on the file, and boot the game again.

Comment on February 10th, 2010.

Hey,
at first I must say on the screens it looks very great.
But I have a problem. I installed all and it seems to work. But if I want to start a “New Game”, “Training” or “Multiplayer” he kicks me out of the game with an error:

“General protection fault!
History: FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- and so on and on ….

You have an idea?

Comment on February 10th, 2010.

colman44, just follow the instructions. you don’t need the disc! :)
it also works with the steam version.

DeuxEx Fan, I’m not sure man, that’s really weird but make sure you go trhough all the necessary step to get this thing up and running, and I believe it should go without saying but make sure you have all your drivers updated and whatnot.

good luck

Nevermind, I figured out the settings, but even with turning damn near everything off I still get really low FPS. I guess my laptop just can’t run it. I’ll try the NewVision pack and see how that runs.

I’m definitely going to put this on my desktop though, thanks for the great mod!

Comment on March 13th, 2010.

There’s been a few people complaining about low FPS around. Which is really weird cos I got stable 60fps at 1920! ;\

maybe it’s some gfx boards, god knows!

Glad you guys like it!

Comment on March 21st, 2010.

I got it running silky smooth on my desktop machine, but a quick question:

Do you have a description of what the settings affect in the “preferences” window?

And What parameter affects bump mapping?

Thanks again, I’m simply blown away playing at 1920×1200, it looks like a new game!

On a side note, is there any way to change the “interface”/HUD and font sizes when running at a high resolution like 1920×1200? All my text and the UI are really crummy looking.

Comment on March 21st, 2010.

I remember seeing a mod around, that would make the icons a bit bigger when running the game on high resolutions. Try a google search, I’m sure you’ll find something.

No, i don’t have a description, you’ll need to find your parameters with trial-and-error, sorry!

Comment on April 22nd, 2010.

Failed to find Steam when launching the HDTP.exe. This does not work with steam apparently.

Comment on April 22nd, 2010.

Yes, it does. Maybe you’re doing something wrong.

Comment on April 22nd, 2010.

Well I am following the installation instructions to the T and it still says Steam not found. The only thing I can think of is maybe because of the new Steam Beta.

Comment on April 22nd, 2010.

That’s weird, I did tried with the new steam. Are you running HDTP.exe ?

Comment on April 22nd, 2010.

Yeah it creates the shortcut on my desktop and Ive tried using the exe in the system folder but still not working. I am at a loss here. Its got to be something simple in one of the ini files but Im just not sure what it is.

Comment on April 22nd, 2010.

I’ll need to have a look at it, I’m going to release another version in the future anyways.

Comment on April 23rd, 2010.

Hey, great mod, unfortunately I’m having a bit of trouble running it at 1920×1080. First of all, the game doesn’t let me change it to 1920×1080, so I need to set it manually in the .ini, however, when I do so, the screen just goes black when starting up the game. This is when I use D3D9. It works flawlessly when I use normal D3D or OpenGL, but of course these don’t let you use the bloom features, etc.
