During QuakeCon 2007, id Software’s John Carmack announced that they have a second team working on a free web-based Quake 3 Arena adaptation, tentatively called Quake Zero. Watch the video below for an excerpt of John’s keynote, courtesy of GGL Wire.

Hourences New Book and Community Website

Sjoerd De Jong, aka Hourences continued contributing to the Level Design and Game Development community and released another book, this time focused on the games industry, It’s called The Hows and Whys of the Games Industry.

  • Intended for amateurs who wish to ‘break into’ the games industry and who are looking for additional information. It’s also for those who are yet undecided on whether or not to pursue a career in the games industry.
  • Aims to provide the reader with a honest and objective discourse about the games industry, its pros and cons, and why one would, or would not, want to be active within this industry.
  • Interviews with over twenty industry professionals on how they got in, what they like, and what they dislike about the games industry.
  • Attempts to provide the reader with answers to some of the most common questions beginners have; such as how much one can expect to earn, the best way to apply to a studio, and what to expect during a job interview. The book will provide the reader with plenty of tips about what to look for when searching for a job.
  • Illustrated with exclusive concept art by Romano Molenaar .

Scheduled for release around Nov-Dec.

Crysis ~ Official System Requirements

Everyone’s been a little disapointed with the colossal specs required to play Crysis at high levels, here are the minimum and recommended system requirements from Crytek and EA:

Minimum System Requirements:

OS – Windows XP or Windows Vista

Processor – 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster* (Vista)

Memory – 1.0 GB RAM (XP) or 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)

Video Card -256 MB**

Hard Drive – 12GB

Sound Card – DirectX 9.0c compatible

* Supported Processors: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista) or faster, Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2 GHz for Vista) or faster, AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or faster.

Black Mesa: Source

For those who haven’t heard of this project, this is a total remake of Half-Life (1), for source engine, this is something, even Valve didn’t achieve with their own Half-Life Source game.
I’m totally confident this will be a really great Total Conversion, question is, when is it going to be released? As far as I know, it has been in development some years already, althouth the team releases some media updates from time to time, so this proves this project is still alive and kickin’!
I really hope they can manage to wrap this thing up, I know how hard it is to finish up a TC, there is always something we would have wanted to change, or make it better, but generally this kind of productions always takes a couple of years to be completed, mainly because most if not all the team members are working on it on they’r free time, that’s the beauty of modding! :)

Also, one of the things I am really enjoying in this production, is that they are even making they’r own music, and what a really great job they’re doing at it, listen to the main theme, here! :)

I highly suggest taking a look at they’r webpage, and they’r media section!

With Unreal Tournament 3 hitting computers next month it’s time to start worrying over what exactly you might have to do to get your computer to run the game.
I personally gotta admit I was expecting something way higher than this, which is nice I suppose, although I’ll have to buy a new Graphical Board!
